About Us

RESTORE started with an environmental concern: After rain, our beloved harbour is inundated with plastic pollution carried by stormwater that originates in our local streets.

The source of much of that plastic: the typical supermarket shop. When we look at our own personal consumption, it's alarming how much plastic packaging we amass by bin night.

Despite our best efforts to shop plastic-free, the options are very limited. The big players are not doing enough. They are wedded to the cheapness and convenience of single-use plastic packaging. But that model has consequences: for our health and the health of the planet. There has to be a better way!

We knew we couldn’t be the only ones feeling this way, so we turned to our community for help. From July-September 2023, we conducted surveys and consultations with North Shore residents. The response was overwhelming!

The community shares our concerns and is motivated to reduce plastic waste at home

  • OF US ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF PLASTIC PACKAGING IN OUR KITCHEN BINS EACH WEEK

  • OF US CHOOSE TO BUY PRODUCTS THAT ARE BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

  • OF US REGULARLY COLLECTED AND RETURNED SOFT PLASTICS TO THE SUPERMARKET UNTIL REDCYCLE CEASED

Out of those conversations, The Restore Project was born. A service that provides plastic-free, low-waste milk and yoghurt in reused containers, delivered right to your door. When you’re done, we collect the containers for refilling and return. It’s a circular system which is better for the environment.

This is not new. It’s simply restoring what we once had. Taking us back to our grandparents’ days when there was no single-use plastic. The ‘milkman’ supplied our neighbourhoods for decades with milk in reused glass bottles.

Our objective is to slash plastic waste produced by our local area by 3,000kg in 2023-2024. But we can’t do it alone. We need the support of the community.

We can all see an urgent need to reduce our reliance on plastic. And Restore is empowering consumers to take real action in their own homes. It’s giving them a real choice that will make a big difference to their local environment.
